New Adult Sunday School Class Coming January 21: Starting Sunday, January 21, at 9:00AM, in Room #5, The Rev. Chris Harrison will begin a class intended to enlighten participants on how the Old Testament was compiled. The class will examine what is called the “Documentary Hypothesis” of how the Old Testament was written and edited into the document we have today. The class will also include an in-depth look at the history of Judaism, its centuries-long struggle for survival, and Judaism’s lasting imprint on Christianity. Bring your Bibles, your curiosity, and questions as this class seeks to strengthen your faith and further your appreciation of the Old Testament.

Holy Week Schedule

+ Palm Sunday, March 24, 10:30AM Worship – There will be a procession of palms into the Sanctuary as worship begins to commemorate the entry of Jesus into Jerusalem on the last week of his life.  Our Congo Missionaries, Christi and Jeff Boyd, will address us in worship and bring greetings from the Congo and the wonderful ministry they oversee that we support each year with our Congo Children’s Scholarship Program.  A reception in the Narthex follows worship in honor of the Boyds.

+ Maundy Thursday, March 28, 12:00Noon, East Wing Sanctuary – We will gather in the East Wing of the Sanctuary at 12:00Noon for a Maundy Thursday salad luncheon followed by a brief worship service at our tables.  Communion will be served.  No sign up is necessary.  If you attend, you are asked to bring any kind of salad you desire to share in potluck fashion with fellow worshippers.

+ Good Friday Worship Service, March 29, 7:00PM, Sanctuary – This will be a service of Tenebrae, which means shadows.  The service will start in full light and end in darkness.  This traditional Good Friday Worship Service will include a Procession of the Cross and Solemn Reproaches of the Cross as we ponder the death of Jesus of Nazareth.

+ Holy Saturday Picnic at Weir Ranch, March 30, 12:00 – 3:00PM.  Come join with fellow church members and friends as we gather at the Weir Ranch off Leander Road for a fried chicken picnic lunch and Easter egg hunt for our children.  This is not a potluck picnic – no food will be shared.  Fried chicken will be provided, free of charge, by your Fellowship Committee.  But picnickers are asked to bring your own food and drink as sides for the fried chicken and your own blankets and lawn chairs.  Water will be provided.  There will be a signup online soon for the picnic so our Fellowship Committee can get a head count for ordering the fried chicken.

+ Easter Sunrise Service, Sunday March 31, 7:30AM, SGPC Columbarium – We will gather on the east side of our building, inside the church’s Columbarium, for our Easter Sunrise Service.  Communion will be served.

+ Easter Morning Breakfast, Sunday March 31, 8:30 – 10:00AM, SGPC Narthex – Your Fellowship Committee invites you to a “come and go” Easter morning breakfast in the church’s Narthex.  Fruit and meat kolaches will be served along with coffee and fruit drinks.  No signup is necessary.  Come and enjoy Easter morning around good food and good fellowship.

+ Easter Worship Service, Sunday, March 31, 10:30AM – We will worship on Easter Sunday!  The Lord’s Supper will be served.
